Setting Up and Managing Trusts

There is a range of reasons why setting up a trust may be a sensible option when it comes to estate planning. This will often be done when someone wishes to leave money or property to young or vulnerable beneficiaries who would otherwise be unable to manage a large inheritance. A trust can be used to hold these assets until the beneficiary reaches adulthood, or in perpetuity if necessary. A trust can also be used to reduce Inheritance Tax liability or to protect assets from prospective creditors.

Trustees will be appointed as the legal owners of the assets that are held in trust. They will be responsible for managing the trust’s assets and complying with the wishes of the person who set up the trust.
